Continental Clothing's state-of-the-art 'Green Factory' in India is a leader in the textile manufacturing industry in terms of sustainability, particularly carbon reduction. SOURCE contributor Emma McGinn, finds out more about how Continental Clothing is optimising resource efficiency through innovative social and environmental practices.

Continental Clothing has received high acclaim for its award-winning carbon neutral EarthPositive line, manufactured in a new state-of-the-art ‘Green Factory’, built two years ago in India. The EarthPositive idea was conceived in 2007 with the aim to provide casual wear using only 100% organic cotton and with minimum social and environmental impacts. They wanted the range to be appealing to the masses and offer choice in an effort to live up to commercial demands.

Since its launch the EarthPositive line has received a multitude of awards including ‘Best Initiative by SME’ at Climate Week Awards 2011. Its achievement to date is supported by a broad customer base within the retail sector, which spans from Tesco to Topshop Boutique to Selfridges.

The team at Continental Clothing are not happy with just fulfilling the minimum requirement, rather, they are paving the way in creating the blueprint for how a carbon neutral, certified organic production facility can be realised for the fashion industry. This article explores how they are achieving this through a combination of state of the art technology and innovative ethical and environmental practices.
